SMB as a destination for your Original, Pro, or Pro Max Raven Scanner allows direct scanning to shared folders on your Mac, as long as the Raven Scanner and Mac are on the same local network.
Follow the steps below to add shared network folders as a destination.
Setting up your Share Folder (With Authentication):
- Access SYSTEM PREFERENCES on your Mac. (Choose apple menu
, SYSTEM PREFERENCES).
- Within System Preferences select SHARING.
- Check the FILE SHARING box.
- Click + under SHARED FOLDERS section.
- Locate the folder you want to share.
- Click ADD.
- Select the folder name in the SHARED FOLDERS list.
- In the USERS section, add user to the "Users" list by selecting + if they are not already shown on the list.
- Change PERMISSION for the user to READ & WRITE if not already selected.
- Right click the FOLDER NAME in the SHARED FOLDERS list.
- Select OPTIONS.
- Un-select ALLOW GUEST USERS to require authentication.
Setting up your Shared Folder (Without Authentication):
- Access SYSTEM PREFERENCES on your Mac. (Choose apple menu
, SYSTEM PREFERENCES).
- Within System Preferences select SHARING.
- Check the FILE SHARING box.
- Click + under SHARED FOLDERS section.
- Locate the folder you want to share.
- Click ADD.
- Select the folder name in the SHARED FOLDERS list.
- In the USERS section, change the EVERYONE setting to READ & WRITE.
- Right click the FOLDER NAME in the SHARED FOLDERS. **Big Sur users only: Instead of right click, highlight the FOLDER NAME and click on the OPTIONS button. Select Share with windows and enter the password and skip the next three steps.
- Select OPTIONS.
- Ensure ALLOW GUEST USERS is selected.
- Ensure SHARE FILE AND FOLDERS USING SMB & AFP are both checked.
Setting up SMB On Raven Scanner:
- Select the Manage button on the Destination Selection area of your home screen.
- Press + ADD in the top left corner of the screen.
- Click NETWORK.
- NETWORK SETTINGS screen will now appear.
- Enter a DESTINATION NAME (the name entered here will be displayed on your Destination Menu).
- Locate and enter your IP ADDRESS (To find your IP address, go to System Preferences, select NETWORK, and locate the IPv4 address).
- PORT NUMBER can be changed if your SMB/NAS is located on port other than 445.
- Type the FOLDER NAME of the folder on your Mac (Please note: if you type <folder name>/<child folder name> it will upload into the child folder…. However, if you just type in <child folder name> then it will upload into that folder as well. Additionally, folders containing "/" will not be accepted).
- USERNAME is the username that the user is set up with on the Mac (IF REQUIRED).
- PASSWORD is the users password that is used to log in to the Mac (IF REQUIRED).
- Click TEST CONNECTION to verify connection (Test Connection will upload a temporary file to verify set up is complete).
- Press SAVE to finalize your changes.
Please note:
- Uploading to SMB will have a slight delay compared to other destinations due to Authentication.
- Hidden folder shares are not supported at this time.
- Under ADVANCED OPTIONS - "Only Allow SMB Encrypted Connections" is currently not supported.
- Any documents uploaded when allowing the GUEST user to upload without authentication will display error "You do not have permission to open <document name>".
- To fix this issue follow the steps below.
- Per File:
- Right click the file in the finder windows.
- Click GET INFO.
- Select the LOCK icon at the bottom right corner.
- Add your username to the list and change permission to READ & WRITE.
- Per Folder:
- Right click the shared folder.
- Click GET INFO.
- Select the LOCK icon at the bottom right corner.
- Press the SETTINGS icon.
- Choose APPLY TO ENCLOSED ITEMS.
- For additional documents uploaded to the folder, this process will have to be repeated.
- Per File:
